Juris is a weeding robot of the organic farming company “Field and Forest”, entrusted with a dill field with an area of about ten hectares. The owner of the company, Gundars Skudriņš, tells “ReTV” that robots in agriculture are now an absolute necessity.
“This is a robot that both sows and weeds itself. We had the opportunity to purchase this first robot with the help of the Rural Support Service. We sowed dill, and now he has finished sowing, now he is weeding,” says Skudriņš.
The robot is named Juri, its weight is less than a ton, energy is obtained from the sun. “As we can see, Juris works, he doesn’t ask for anything, basically he has a battery, feeds from the sun, a couple of electric motors, and then there is the greatest value, his brain, his wisdom,” Skudriņš said.
The robot is able to sow or uproot one hectare in three hours, the accuracy of weeding is one centimeter, the machine knows where it has sown the seed, and dill is not uprooted. Skudriņš explains that there is a shortage of labor in agriculture and that robots cannot do without. The price of this equipment is almost 100,000 euros.
