We can be grateful today and forever to those 69 women and men who, on the evening of August 20, 1991, spoke their historic words in the Supreme Council of the Republic of Estonia to restore Estonia’s national independence. When they made this decision, they could not be at all sure that the storm had subsided and the gust of wind had died down. All the more, this knowledge adds weight to the actions at that time and the bravery expressed. By risking their own personal fate, they gave us all something quite priceless – a freed Estonia again.
In politics, history is made every day, but there are moments in history when everything really depends on one bold decision. As long as we cherish the freedom of Estonia and as long as we are caring in our decisions and seek cooperation, we will serve the most important task, which is to secure the Estonian people and the survival of an independent and protected Estonia.
I wish everyone a beautiful Independence Day!
Power to Estonia!
