Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told BBC Sport that he hopes to play Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

Tottenham have not played a competitive game since December 5 due to issues related to the coronavirus.

The Spurs have postponed their games against Rennes, Brighton and Hove Albion and Leicester City.

Liverpool have been playing normally and beat Newcastle United at Anfield in the Premier League on Thursday night.

The Reds will face Tottenham away from home at the Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

And Klopp hopes the game will go ahead.

Klopp told BBC Sport: ‘I don’t see the massive benefit from that [stopping the Premier League] because we go back {and]it’s still the same.

“If the virus goes away, then I am the first to stop, go home and wait until it is gone. But that’s probably not the case, so where is the real benefit?

“We hope we can play and Tottenham can play on Sunday.”

Great game

As football fans, we would love to see the Premier League game between Tottenham and Liverpool go ahead.

Of course, the authorities must ensure that there are no coronavirus risks.

But, if all is well and there are no Covid-related issues, then we believe the match should continue.

We find it really encouraging to see that Klopp wants the game to go ahead.

We know Liverpool have a busy holiday schedule, but Klopp still seems intent on playing.

Liverpool are going strong in the Premier League and will surely want to maintain their momentum.
