Jürgen Klopp Reveals Team Captaincy Decisions for Liverpool’s 2023-2024 Season

The German Jurgen Klopp, coach of the English football team Liverpool, revealed the reason for placing the Egyptian international star, Mohamed Salah, in fifth place among the team leaders in the next season 2023-2024.

And with the departure of former Liverpool captain James Milner at the end of last season, then his transfer to the Saudi Al-Ittifaq club in the current summer transfer market; Reds fans are focused on who will take the captaincy in the new season.

Klopp announced that Dutch defender Virgil van Dyck is the first captain of Liverpool, followed by English full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, then Scottish Andrew Robertson, Brazilian Alison Becker fourth, while Salah finished fifth.

Klopp said – in statements to the official website of Liverpool – “Mohamed Salah is the captain of the Egyptian national team and one of the best players who represented the club, but those who play in the offensive line are different from the rest, and they should be.”

He added, “We all benefit from him, so we need him as a role model. We need him as the person who leads the group, he is the first in pressing the opponents and the first in everything on the field, while outside it he is a smart person who is loved by everyone, everyone wants to be by his side.” So it’s very important to us.”

Klopp revealed the secret of his options, and said, “Van Dyck wants to be a leader, and he is, and he should have taken a step forward. I am confident that he is proud now, and I think my decision is logical. As for Arnold, he is ready to be a team leader, as he is one of the club’s sons. In recent years He developed a lot on the field and on a personal level, and that’s why I wanted him to be in this place.”

As for Robertson, he explained, “This is a player who cannot be ignored within this group because he is a person who has the attributes of leadership by nature. He is a player who has some of Milner’s characteristics. He is also the captain of the Scotland national team, and knows how to act in critical situations.”

Regarding the Brazilian goalkeeper, he explained, “Alison is a very important person in the dressing room, because he is a calm personality and when he says something, everyone listens to him, and this is very important for the leader. He is indeed a natural leader.”

And the German coach concluded, “In the end, if things go well on the field, no one will need this group, but we need them in difficult moments.”

It is noteworthy that Mohamed Salah joined Liverpool on June 23, 2017 from Rome, Italy, and since that time he has played 305 matches in all tournaments, during which he scored 186 goals, provided 79 assists, and was crowned with all possible titles locally, in Europe and globally.

It is scheduled that Liverpool will cut the tape of the matches of the new season 2023-2024 by facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Sunday, August 13, in the first round of the English Premier League football competitions.
