Jürgen Klopp is not sure if Salah needs a run-up

This summer, Liverpool supporters got the treat they had been waiting for for a long time. Mohamed Salah had signed a new three-year contract, and the 30-year-old will stay in the red shirt until at least 2025. By then, the Egyptian has been under Jürgen Klopp’s wing for eight years, and he is getting ever closer to legend status at Anfield.

– You almost have to ask Mo (Salah) about it, but he looks like his usual self. Sharp, in top form, full of hopes and hard work. He’s always like this, so I don’t know if Mo needs a run-up, says Klopp to Premier League Production when asked about Salah’s influence on the team.

IN A GOOD MOOD: Mohamed Salah seems to be enjoying himself enormously in Liverpool during the build-up. The Egyptian scored another goal in the 5-0 win over RB Leipzig.

Very happy to be here

For Mohamed Salah always seems to be on the chopping block from the first warm-up match. He has been like this in all of his summers with the Reds. There is no doubt that the Egyptian is talented, but it does not come naturally, and especially not at the age he is entering.

– He could probably start the season straight away. Of course he needs to get into the rhythm and such, but from a physical point of view there is nothing to complain about. He is a great talent, but he also works extremely hard, says Klopp about his diamond on the right wing.

This summer, Sadio Mane left for Bayern, but Mohamed Salah stayed and signed a new contract. It is not certain that the Reds could keep both in the next few years, but Salah feels at home in Liverpool after five years at the club.

– I know that he is very pleased to get the contract in place. We were his club before the new contract and we are definitely his club now. It feels good.

Felt older after the Nunez push

Another player, who has barely shown what’s inside him, is Darwin Nunez. And what’s a Klopp interview without a few questions about his new striker?

– It’s a new club, everything is new. Liverpool is a big club, and Darwin (Nunez)’s career has taken off in recent years. His journey is exciting and he will take big steps with us, without a doubt, says Klopp.

SCORET 4: Darwin Nunez was not satisfied until four goals were in the RB Leipzig goal. It was probably good for the striker, but does it put additional pressure on him?

It is clear that the excitement and demands of Liverpool’s 23-year-old forward have annoyed Jürgen Klopp during the summer. It was probably just as good for the German, as the striker himself, to see four in the back of the net against RB Leipzig, even if it was in a training match.

– In the build-up, the players should not play as they usually do, because that would have been a bad sign. Then we haven’t worked hard enough, because in this period nobody should have their best legs in the matches.

– But at the same time, as a new player, you are judged every single day, and everyone talks about you. It’s hectic, and I’m not sure if it has to do with my age or not, but it can be too much, admits the Liverpool coach.

Now the German is looking forward to the last days in Austria and the match on Wednesday. He also believes that it is too early to see what Darwin Nunez’s level is.

– I don’t think we quite know which way things can go for him, because it’s so fresh and new. He wants to enjoy himself every day, but we have a lot to do and he has a lot to work on. Everything is as it should be, concludes Klopp.
