Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Jurgen Klopp provide information about the incident of the commotion between Pep Guardiola and Darwin Nunez after the Manchester City vs Liverpool match in the Premier League, Saturday (25/11).
Guardiola and Nunez’s dispute occurred on the sidelines after the referee ended the match. The two of them stood close together and exchanged words while showing gestures that showed resistance.
Not long afterward Klopp arrived. Pulling Nunez’s body slightly while embracing him, the German coach then distanced Nunez from the Man City coach.
Klopp was also seen trying to calm his teammate from Uruguay, while Guardiola was kept away from Nunez by Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders.
“It’s emotional. To be honest, I’m not sure I have to explain this because I’m not involved,” said Klopp, quoted by Reuters.
“I love both of them and I tried to calm the situation without knowing 100 percent what was happening because I didn’t understand the words,” he added.
Klopp explained that both parties wanted three points in this big match, so the 1-1 score which was the final result was likely to trigger a dispute between Guardiola and Nunez.
“I don’t think Darwin Nunez knows about that [persaingan sengit Man City dan Liverpool]. It’s emotional. Pep wants to win, we want to win. “Both sides didn’t win so of course no one was really happy and then this happened,” explained the former Borussia Dortmund coach.
The opening match after the international break ended in a draw. Erling Haaland’s goal put Man City ahead in the 27th minute, but Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized in the 80th minute.
Because of the draw, Man City and Liverpool dropped one place to second and third. Arsenal overtook both teams and are now at the top of the standings after winning 1-0 over Brentford.
