It is a strange exit. In February Jürgen Klinsmann quits his coaching position at Hertha – via Facebook – and surprises the club, fans and media. The reason given by the 55-year-old is a lack of trust. But it is not just the trust that Klinsmann lacks in Berlin.

In a document, the former national team coach of Germany recorded what went wrong at Hertha. It is Klinsmann’s review of his work in Berlin. The headline: «Summary: Ten Weeks Hertha BSC». He documented this time on 22 A4 pages of “Sport Bild” – down to the last detail. It is a brutal settlement that has never been seen before.

Klinsmann on the club
“The club would have moved straight to the second division without the change of coach at the end of November,” said Klinsmann. The club is in the relegation battle, but one plans, “as if it were an international top club with a large number of top players”. The entire management team and the entire media team travel to the away games in the team bus. “No Bundesliga level,” says Klinsmann. In addition, the 55-year-old accuses those responsible that not a single member of the management – after Hertha player Jordan Torunarigha was racially insulted – has commented on the whole issue.

Klinsmann about the team
The team was “in a catastrophic physical and mental state,” Klinsmann writes in late autumn 2019. The squad is incorrectly composed and far too large. Players would also have attacked the coach. They accuse Klinsmann of “technical and above all human defects” in various media. The club, however, “leaves everything in the room for the public”.

Klinsmann about manager Michael Preetz
Manager Preetz in particular gets his fat off in Klinsmann’s billing. «Years of catastrophic omissions by Michael Preetz in all areas related to competitive sports.» He also put together the squad completely wrong. And: “Planning the preparation for the second half of the season, for which Michael Preetz is responsible, is a disaster.” There is also a “culture of lies that has also destroyed the relationship of trust between the players and Preetz”.
–
What has to happen so that this club can really succeed at some point? Klinsmann: “The management team must be completely replaced immediately.” In addition, the stadium issue had to be solved and a new training center planned. According to Klinsmann, there is a lot of work to do in Berlin.

The club itself does not want to participate in such a public controversy, Sport Bild concludes. Apart from that, “almost all of the allegations and allegations contained therein are not true,” says Hertha’s answer. (Mam)
