Jürgen Holzinger from Marz with a new book

After the success of his first work “How to learn to stand up without legs!” The 42-year-old author Jürgen Holzinger – who has had a double thigh amputee since 2014 – tells of his long journey back to life in his second book “How to learn to walk without legs”. In a motivating and emotional way, he describes how much strength he had to find for his therapies, how difficult it was for him to be separated from his family and what it means to continue pursuing your goals despite setbacks. He shares his thoughts and shows how important solidarity is in our society. But also what football stars David Alaba, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have to do with it…

The native of Rohrbach, who lives with his family in Marz, has played football actively and very successfully for over three decades. “I started playing as a teenager, and in adult football I played for SV Rohrbach, ASK Baumgarten, SV Forchtenstein, SC Bad Sauerbrunn and SV Schattendorf. When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2001, everything suddenly changed,” says the book author. He wrote his first book “How to learn to stand up without legs” during the Corona period. It spans an arc from Holzinger’s childhood, to football, to his cancer diagnosis, which, as he says, meant his chances of survival were slim. But he fought his way back to life and was considered completely healed. The next low blow came in 2013, when an enlarged lymph node was discovered during a preventive examination. After an operation there were serious complications and both of his legs had to be amputated. But Jürgen Holzinger never gave up hope and always drew strength from his setbacks. He still enjoys football today. As a coach with the U9 team at ASK Marz, he passed this on to the children. In June 2022 he ended his work as a youth coach.

After there was a book presentation in March at the end of November, the author will present his second work “How to learn to walk without legs” on Thursday, December 14th, at 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the Rohrbach municipal office.
