The canton of Jura has granted 625,000 francs in compensation since April to actors and cultural institutions to mitigate the effects of Covid-19. So far, the Office of Culture has received 67 compensation claims, a figure on the average for other cantons.
A third of them come from freelancers while the rest were submitted by cultural companies. Half of the requests come from the field of performing arts such as theater, dance and music, detailed Tuesday the Department of training, culture and sports.
Hit hard during the crisis
The average amount compensated for the hour is 14,000 francs per case. Other requests, including that of the Chant du Gros festival, are pending. The culture sector was among the first to be affected by health measures and was hit hard during the crisis, recalled the canton of Jura.
The canton of Jura released 2.3 million francs to compensate cultural actors and institutions that suffered a loss of earnings during the crisis. Half of this amount is funded by the Confederation.
The Government has taken other measures to support culture, such as maintaining the 2020 subsidies despite the cessation of activities. The Solidarity Fund, supplied by private donations, also makes it possible to support cultural institutions that would not be entitled to receive Covid compensation.
