Anderlecht won against Genk 2 to 1 (halftime: 1-0) during the 8th day of the Champions playoffs of the Belgian football championship on Saturday.
The people of Brussels, 46 points, remain more than ever in the race for the title with a first place in the standings before Monday’s clash, however, between Club Bruges and Union Saint-Gilloise.
Yari Verschaeren scored the first goal of the match and the first goal of his own season just before half-time (45th, 1-0). The Limburgers, who thanked their coach Wouter Vrancken this week, were able to thank their manager with a sending from Mario Stroeykens – who had replaced Verschaeren at half-time – in the 64th minute on the crossbar.

It was only a postponement for the Mauves, the Dane Kasper Dolberg doubled the lead in the 70th (2-0), for his 14th goal of the season.
Genk restarted the game with their Nigerian striker Arokodare Tolu in the 76th minute (2-1), but the score no longer changed.
Anderlecht host Club Brugge next Sunday for the penultimate day. With 45 points, Bruges must first face Union Saint-Gilloise (3rd, 42 points) on Monday.
A Bruges victory would ruin the last hopes of the Union, a Saint-Gilles success would further reduce the distance at the top with Anderlecht. There will then only be two days remaining.
The two teams will arrive at this meeting after an important match, the semi-final, lost, of the Conference League for Bruges and the final of the Belgian Cup, won, for the Union.
Bruges is confident after its 19 out of 21. The Union has regained color (7 out of 9) after its four defeats in a row, reinforced by its success in the Cup over Antwerp.
Sunday (6:30 p.m.), Antwerp (6th, 29 points) will meet Cercle Bruges (5th, 33 points).
