In this seventeenth edition of the Junior Song Contest there are remarkably fewer participants than in previous years. In 2019 there were nineteen participating countries and in 2018 even twenty.

The national final of the Junior Song Contest will take place at the end of September in Rotterdam Ahoy, where the major Eurovision Song Contest will also be held next year.
