Junior Santos Makes History as Botafogo’s Top Scorer in Record-Breaking 6-0 Libertadores Victory

Júnior Santos scored four goals in the rout of Botafogo 6-0 against Aurora, this Wednesday, at Nilton Santos, and became the club’s top scorer in the history of the Libertadores. The striker was equal to Jairzinho, Dirceu and Rodrigo Pimpão, all with five goals.

Furthermore, it was the first time that a Botafogo player scored four goals in a Libertadores game. Júnior Santos had already scored a goal in the first leg, in Bolivia, in a 1-1 draw.

– I had already scored a hat-trick, but four goals is the first time. I worked and tried hard. When we see the results, we are very happy, not only me but the entire team. We played a great game, we have to maintain our momentum throughout the season because we have a great team – said Júnior Santos.

Tonight, Tiquinho Soares and Savarino scored the team’s other goals. With the victory, Botafogo will compete in the next knockout stage of the Pre-Libertadores against Bragantino. Whoever wins enters the group stage of Conmebol Libertadores. Whoever loses will compete in the South American Championship.
