After an exceptional start to the season, marked by the title of European champion and successes in the rounds of the Coupe de France, Aubin Sparfel was the big favorite this Sunday morning during the junior cyclo-cross World Championships in Tabor. Unfortunately, suffering a puncture at the worst time, he finished off the podium, in 4th place.

As he revealed a few days ago, these World Championships in Tabor constituted the number one objective of his season. Building on his recent performances, including his first World Cup victories, Aubin Sparfel was the natural candidate for final victory in the Czech Republic this Sunday morning. The start of the race confirmed this trend, with the young Vosges native quickly taking control on a muddy circuit. However, on a tarmac portion, a technical incident, as during the French championships in mid-January, forced the Cycle Golbéen licensee to finish in 4th place. While he was well on his way to victory, a puncture at the start of the last lap deprived him of the title and even the podium. The incident is all the more frustrating as it occurred more than 5 minutes from his aid station. The member of the Decathlon AG2R U19 Team was therefore unable to change bikes quickly, thus losing precious minutes in his quest for the world summit.

Despite this disappointment, Aubin Sparfel, great architect of the world title won two days ago by the mixed relay of the French team, will be able to find comfort in this recent performance.
