A question mark before the JVM.
Now the goalkeeping is the biggest exclamation point.
– It is completely disturbed, says Tom Willander about the success.
Three games, three wins and zero goals conceded.
Yes, the Junior crowns have had the best possible start at the JVM and a big reason for that is the defense and above all the goalkeeping.
Hugo Hävelid zeroed Latvia, passed the baton to Melker Thelin who zeroed Germany – and then stepped back in and zeroed Canada.
– Both goalkeepers are fantastic. It’s completely messed up. It’s an extremely nice feeling for us outfield players to know that the pucks don’t go in, says Tom Willander.

“Do not understand”
Hävelid has guarded the coffers in the youth national team for several years and took part in winning gold in the U18 WC 2022.
Nevertheless, Djurgårdskeepern was questioned before JVM.
– I don’t understand why Hugo has been questioned. He won the U18 WC for us and is a great goalkeeper. He’s like a wall back there. He gives us confidence and a damn calmness. He is very important to our team, says Noah Östlund.
First in 26 years
It was the first time in 26 years that Sweden kept a clean sheet against Canada in the JVM.
– We not only have good goalkeepers, we have a good team. Me and Melker have guys in front of us who work for 60 minutes. I am so grateful for that. It will be so much more fun to play then, Hävelid points out humbly.
However, he does not boast that the success feels extra special because Henrik Lundqvist himself was sitting in the stands watching.
– People have looked up to him. He was the king over there when you were little and yes, you have watched Henke a lot over the years, so it was cool, says Hävelid.
