TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician Junimart Girsang responded to the report by the Indonesian Youth Circle (LPI) against two of his party’s politicians, Hasto Kristiyanto and Adian Napitupulu, to the National Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Unit on suspicion of defamation of President Joko Widodo. He questioned LPI’s position as a reporter.
Junimart said it respects everyone’s right to report to the police if there is a crime. However, Junimart questioned whether in the context of slander, who was slandered, who was insulted, and who was the reporter.
“Everyone has the right to report, it should be the person who has been harmed, except for crimes,” said Junimart to Tempo when met at the Senayan Complex, Monday, November 13 2023.

“The first point is, he (Hasto) mentioned that there was intervention around the Palace against the Constitutional Court. Third, he said that there were indications of intervention against the Constitutional Court that occurred at the Palace,” said M Saleh to Tempo, Monday 13 November 2023.
Saleh also said that Hasto Kristiyanto’s statement was without clear evidence, which resulted in defamation of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
“Hasto said that if he contacted Pratikno via WhatsApp, how could he express that Pratikno was crying. Second, what is the evidence of intervention at the Palace against the Constitutional Court? With this, he is defaming Joko Widodo and inciting opinions and he has to prove it,” said Saleh.
Saleh also said that his party reported it Adian Napitupulu on the basis of guiding public opinion regarding his statements in the media regarding President Jokowi’s request for recommendations when he and his family will nominate themselves.
“As we said a week ago, there was a video broadcast of Adian Napitupulu saying, there are those who ask for recommendations as governor, we give them, there are those who ask to be President, we give them, there are those whose children ask to be recommended as mayor, we give them, as well as their sons-in-law,” said M Saleh.
