The community assembly elected Anita Abächerli to the presidium with 62 of 63 votes. After the announced resignation of Erich Sterchi, she will take over the fate of the community from January 2022. In addition, the commitment loan for the extension of the street lighting on Schriederstrasse was clearly rejected.

“Hofstetten was first mentioned in the history books in 1368”, said the community vice-president Gustav Stähli after the community meeting. “And today, for the first time, a woman was elected mayor.” After more than 650 years in the history books, it is Anita Abächerli who is the first woman to take over the management of Hofstetten. She looks forward to working with the rest of the local council and the population. She also emphasizes that “working with organizations, teams and people in every form” is an enrichment for her.
Looking for a successor
After the current mayor Erich Sterchi announced his resignation in the spring (this newspaper reported), the search for a suitable replacement began for the local council and the administration. No one from the ranks of the municipal council could make themselves available for the office. Be it for professional, family, personal or time reasons, as can be seen from an information letter from the community. That is why the municipal council and the administration created a requirement profile for the various tasks of the office. Anita Abächerli met these requirements and was submitted to the community as a candidate. At the community meeting it was shown that the electorate supported the suggestion of the community council.
For Anita Abächerli, cooperation is an important point in order to be able to successfully contest her legislature.

First woman in office
62 of 63 of the Hofstetter present voted for Anita Abächerli, who will take up her new office in January 2022. Anita Abächerli is delighted that she was the first woman to be elected to the Hofstetten municipal council. “I was pleased that so many who were here today supported me,” she said after the community meeting. “I am very excited about the office and look forward to working with my colleagues in the local council and involving the population.”
After she was elected to office by the large majority, she thanked those present and expressed her wish for a good future cooperation.

Immediately after the election, she cannot say exactly how she wants to shape her legislature. “I can’t even judge what the most burning issues are,” she says. “It is important to me to first sit down with my colleagues and see what issues they are dealing with.” Because the council has done a good job so far. “That’s why I don’t want to rush anything or take it into my own hands too quickly.” The local council is a body, and cooperation is needed there.

The fact that the community has found an ideal replacement for Erich Sterchi in Anita Abächerli is evident in their love for Hofstetten. “It is an incredibly beautiful piece of earth,” says the newly elected mayor. «I am very comfortable here. We have wonderful nature all around and I enjoy that very much. ” That is also the reason why she wants to stay here. “It is a place to be, it is a place to enjoy. I really appreciate that in these turbulent times. “

Discussion about street lighting
In addition to the elections, the municipal assembly also voted on the 2022 budget and a commitment loan for the expansion of the street lighting on Schriederstrasse. While the 2022 budget was accepted without further ado, the second item on the agenda sparked discussion. At the community meeting on June 20, 2019, the wish was expressed to expand the public lighting on Schriederstrasse. The municipal council complied with this request and therefore obtained a cost estimate. This amounts to 75,000 francs.
63 voters from Hofstetten gathered for the community meeting in the gym.

The municipal council’s application to approve a loan for this amount was countered with the objection that Schriederstrasse was located in an agricultural zone and that there was hardly any traffic at night. In addition, the community is in deficit and has to be careful with its money, which is why an investment of 75,000 francs in lighting on a road with little traffic is not a good idea.
Mayor Erich Sterchi stated that the town council had complied with the request of the town hall with this deal.

The question was also raised whether the municipality had a lighting concept. This is not directly the case, said councilor Beat Friedrich. In the cost estimate, however, the amount of necessary lighting was calculated so that the route could be covered. «This was preceded by calculations. It was calculated in such a way that the amount of luminous bodies and the luminosity are correct and thus merge into one another. ”

Although the wish for an expansion came from the community meeting, two and a half years later that wish no longer seemed to be so strong. The municipal assembly decided against the municipal council’s motion with 46 votes against, five votes in favor and twelve abstentions.
