City of Berne | 13. May 2022

The traffic hub in the east of the city of Bern is to become safer. The municipal council has approved a loan of 6.75 million francs to the city council, as announced on Thursday.

The work at the Eggholzli node is embedded in the overall project for the correction of Thunstrasse in Muri. Under the leadership of the canton, tram line 6 between Eggholzli and Muri is being expanded to double track. At the same time, the conditions for people with disabilities and for non-motorised traffic will be improved.

If the city council approves the loan, construction work on the overall project will begin in spring 2023. They should be completed by the end of 2024.

As the landowner, the city of Bern is responsible for the redesign of the traffic junction and also bears a proportionate share of the costs of the traffic management measures in the Muri-Bern area.
