June’s current account surplus was 1,533.5 billion yen, lower than expected

TOKYO (Reuters) – According to the latest balance of payments report released by the Ministry of Finance on the 8th, the current account balance in June was in surplus at 1.5335 trillion yen. The median forecast in a preliminary survey conducted by Reuters by private research institutions was a surplus of about 1,789.7 billion yen, while the reported surplus was lower than expected.

Within the current account balance, the trade balance expanded to a surplus. Trade balance and services, including trade balance, turned into a surplus of 180.5 billion yen. The surplus in the main income balance was 1,473.7 billion yen, a decrease from the same month last year. The secondary income balance was a deficit of 120.7 billion yen.

It was also announced that the current account surplus for the first half of the calendar year from January to June 2024 had accumulated to 12,681.7 billion yen.
