In the sixth month of the year, a total of two million 401 thousand 775 people were transported on international flights to Mexico, which means an occupancy of 86 percent of the seats offered and represents the highest figure so far this year, announced the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
According to the agency, the number of passengers arriving on international flights to Mexico by region in the first half of the year was 14 million 858 thousand 593 passengers, of which 79 percent came from North America; 11.9 percent from the Caribbean, Central and South America; 8.5 percent from Europe and 0.6 percent from Asia.
With data taken from the Official Airline Guide (OAG), Sectur confirmed that for 2024, there is a schedule of 35 million 880 thousand 972 seats to Mexico from different regions of the world, which represents an increase of 4.9 percent compared to what was scheduled in 2023, when there were 34 million 199 thousand 381.
Thus, he said, from January to December of this year, the North American region is the one that registers the highest number of scheduled seats to Mexico, with 28 million 168 thousand 363 seats, equivalent to 78.5 percent of the total.
The Caribbean, Central and South America follow with 4,427,380 seats or 12.3 percent of the total; Europe with 3,070,860 or 8.6 percent; while Asia has 214,369 seats, which represents 0.6 percent of the total.
According to Sectur, by 2024, the airlines with the largest share of scheduled seats in international operations to Mexico are: American Airlines with 14.5 percent of the total and Aeroméxico with 13.3 percent, which together add up to nine million 986 thousand seats.
For his part, he specified, the airports with the highest number of seats scheduled with international service to Mexico during 2024 are Cancún, Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Guadalajara, which total 25 million 273 thousand seats, equivalent to 70.4 percent of the total.
In turn, the main international routes to Mexico for 2024 with the highest number of scheduled seats are: Dallas-Cancun, with 691,932 seats; Los Angeles-Guadalajara, with 679,236 seats and Toronto-Cancun, with 660,728 seats.
“During the current administration, 482 new international routes have been opened to our country, thereby continuing to strengthen tourism activity for the benefit of the local population,” said Miguel Torruco, head of Sectur, in a statement.
