Used car sales rose to a record high last month. In June, 120,550 second-hand models were sold. That means not only an increase of 14.5 percent compared to the same month a year earlier, but also the best sales month ever. BOVAG and data provider RDC report this on Wednesday.
The industry association is anticipating that 2020 will be a record year for second-hand sales, despite the number of vehicles sold in the first half of the year still falling 2.9 percent on the volume in 2019. Sales may end above two million used car this year.
The increase in the sale of second-hand cars is related to the reluctance of many people to travel by public transport again. The RAI Association previously concluded that 20 percent of regular public transport users ignore the train or bus even if the measures are relaxed. About 68 percent of them now want to drive those miles with a car.
Earlier on Wednesday, KPMG warned about a possible increase in CO2 emissions and the consequences for the climate targets as the fleet is getting older.
