Jumbo-Visma leader falls, but team occupies full podium in Burgos after battlefield in final kilometer cycling

It was not only bingo in the Tour of Poland (once again) today, the sprint of the peloton was also marred by a terrible crash in the Tour of Burgos.

Jumbo-Visma dived into the descending final kilometre, but a small traffic island completely derailed the train.

David Dekker was in 3rd position and was catapulted from his bike by the bump in the Spanish road surface.

His teammates escaped unscathed, but in Dekker’s wake the dominoes fell en masse.

The Quick Step duo Jannik Steimle/Davide Ballerini, among others, was badly damaged.

They were apparently not aware of any harm in the Jumbo-Visma trio, Timo Roosen made another (misplaced) victory gesture after a sprint.

“I hadn’t seen the crash,” the Dutch stage winner quickly apologized. “Of course I don’t want a race to end this way. Hopefully everyone will say it.”
