Jumbo removes shrimp from shelves due to possible listeria contamination NOW

Supermarket chain Jumbo immediately takes shrimp with garlic from the private label from the shelves because of a possible listeria contamination. Customers who have purchased the product are requested to return it to the supermarket.

These are articles with the expiry date of 9 February 2020. Customers who return the product will receive their money back.

Listeria is a pathogenic bacterium that mainly occurs in products of animal origin. Most people who come into contact with listeria do not notice it or only get mild flu symptoms, such as nausea and diarrhea.

The bacteria can be harmful to vulnerable groups; for example, pregnant women may experience premature birth or miscarriage.

In the Netherlands, three people have died in the last two years from meat infected with listeria. The trio had eaten meat products from the Dutch producer Offerman, where Jumbo was also a customer.
