Some scientists believe that this July will be the hottest month on Earth in the last 120,000 years.
July 2023 is coming to an end, and scientists already consider it a record – such heat on Earth has not been recorded in the entire history of meteorological observations. The EU Copernicus Climate Change Service reports that 23 average daily temperature records have been recorded since the beginning of the month.
Most likely, the second month of this summer will become the leader in the category “hottest July” over the past 120 thousand years. However, scientists are in no hurry to uncork champagne to celebrate the record. They believe that the cause of the current warming was the activity of mankind, and first of all we are talking about the burning of fossil fuels.
This July has already shown its character from the very first days: the 6th became the hottest day on the planet in the history of observations. In the following days, 23 temperature records were recorded, from which several people suffered in Europe, there were even victims of the sizzling heat.
According to preliminary calculations of scientists, the average temperature on the planet in the first 25 days of July was 16.95C. In July 2019, the average temperature was 16.63C. Similar temperature values, according to scientists, were about 120 thousand years ago.
To protect the Earth from further warming, humanity must reduce greenhouse gas emissions and realize that protecting the climate and fighting for the environment is a necessity.
As previously reported, experts urge the world to prepare and adapt to more extreme air temperatures in the future.
