Jumbo-Visma will launch a women’s team next year, the Dutch cycling squad announced on Monday. The team will be structured around the Dutch Marianne Vos, 2012 Olympic champion and triple world champion on the road, and will count with Julie van de Velde a Belgian in its ranks.
“The goal is to become the best women’s team in the world“, said his manager Esra Tromp, former training manager Parkhotel Valkenburg.
Jumbo-Visma dominated, without winning, the last Tour de France with the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, Dutch Tom Dumoulin and Wout Van Aert.
The new team will be supported by the two main partners of the men’s team, Jumbo and Visma, as well as by Parkhotel Valkenburg.
The Jumbo-Visma Women team will start under a continental license in 2021 because the UCI regulations do not allow a new team to participate directly in the WorldTour (1st division), said the Dutch team, which however intends to participate in all the important races.
The workforce of the twelve competitors will be predominantly Dutch. He will understand Marianne Vos (33 years old), Olympic road champion in 2012 and twelve times world champion in all disciplines, Jip van den Bos, Riejanne Markus, Anouska Koster, Nancy van der Burg, Romy Kasper, Aafke Soet, Teuntje Beekhuis and Karlijn Swinkels, as well as the Belgian Julie van de Velde, the Danish Pernille Mathiesen and the British Anna Henderson.
The former Belgian runner Lieselot Decroix, sports scientist at ULB, will be one of the team’s coaches.
The announcement of the creation of this new team comes three days after the disappearance, for lack of payment of salaries, of the former Bigla group taken over by the company in May. Paule Ka, fourth in the last world ranking.
