It was from Avignon – at the Conservatory and in Annie Fajeau’s A Piacere choir – that the young soprano Julie Roset took off. At less than 25 years old, her crystal voice passed successively through Aix-en-Provence, then Geneva, to arrive in New York. The American megalopolis opened the doors of prestigious institutions to her: the Julliard School and the Metropolitan Opera, so envied, where, just a year ago, she was a brilliant winner of a competition. Julie Roset returns to Avignon with “La Néréide”, an ensemble she created with two other sopranos. They will be accompanied, this Sunday, May 14, by lute, harp, theorbo, viola and harpsichord…
Tell us about your gig?
“We will sing works by Luzzaschi, to which we have added Monteverdi. Luzzaschi composed small pieces for “Les dames de Ferrare”, three sopranos precisely. They were very famous in the XVIe century. But their concerts and their scores, exclusive, were only open to an elite. Each madrigal is a jewel, it sings of nascent love, lost love, emotions. And the musical writing is incredibly rich. »
How did you design the concert?
“Each in turn, we are soprano 1, 2 and 3, to underline the different color and the inventiveness of each piece. In the Baroque, every detail is important. And for each concert, we hire this or that instrumentalist ourselves, depending on the program. This is the CD that will soon be released. But it’s almost a first, since we only played it once in concert. »
How is your life going between Europe and the United States?
“Our 2022-2023 season was already organized for Europe before the competition, but now our projects will materialize in the USA, in New York, a city I adopted, or San Francisco. I’m happy to come back to Avignon, so rarely, but where I still have family…, who often come to join me at concerts in Europe. »
