Julie Andrews (87) is one of Hollywood’s greatest actors.
Films such as “The Sound of Music” and “Mary Poppins” gave her status as a film icon, and a living legend, but it was her singing voice that gave her a place in the limelight.
This is his new life
Together with her mother and stepfather, Julie started performing in local nightclubs and bars as early as 10 years old.

In the 1940s she toured with other children, entertaining soldiers during World War II, and at 13 she became the youngest solo singer to perform on a royal variety show.

Lost my voice
Her beautiful singing voice got her noticed in the TV industry. The young rising star starred in several TV series in the 1950s, before she made her debut in the musical “The Boy Friend” on her own 19th birthday in 1954.
This is what he looks like now
Andrews became world famous for his clear voice, and it was a hard blow when in 1997 the actor underwent a botched operation. A disastrous operation resulted in her losing her singing voice.

Andrews had felt hoarse and sore in his throat, and was diagnosed with cysts on his vocal cords. But what was supposed to be a routine operation led to permanent damage.

When she woke up after the procedure, her singing voice was broken.
– I got depressed. I felt like I had lost my identity, the actor told AARP Magazine in 2019.

Operated four times
Later it turned out that Andrews had never had cysts on her vocal cords, but that she had worn out her vocal cords practicing before a recording.
Unrecognizable
In desperation, the movie star underwent four more surgeries to correct her voice, but her singing voice never returned.
Two years after the operation, she sued the doctor and the hospital, and the parties agreed on an unknown compensation sum.

Fortunately, at the same time, a new career path appeared for Andrews, and literature proved to be the way out of the difficult times.
These lasted the shortest
– I was lucky. My daughter Emma and I were asked to write books for children. So then came a completely new career in the mid-60s. It was a lovely surprise, says Andrews in the same interview, adding:
– But I miss singing, I really do.

Never retires
Today, more than 70 years after she started in the entertainment business, Andrews continues to work.
That’s why he “escaped”.
The 87-year-old has, among other things, the narrator’s voice in the Netflix series “Bridgerton”, and has given life to animated characters in children’s films such as “Shrek” and “Despicable Me”. She has also had her own series “Julie’s Greenroom” on Netflix.

These have dated the Hollywood charmer
