Julie Allemand, the 27-year-old guard of the Belgian Cats, is sidelined for three to four months with an ankle injury. The verdict: no WNBA season with LA Sparks and uncertainty for the Paris Olympics.
Julie Allemand, guard of the Belgian Cats, has to give up the rest of the season at her French club Asvel Lyon. In the match against Saint-Amand, Allemand suffered an ankle injury. In consultation with the medical staff of Lyon and the Belgian Cats, the playmaker will undergo surgery shortly.
Allemand faces a rehabilitation of 3 to 4 months. Allemand will be forced to miss the WNBA season with the Los Angeles Sparks. The Walloon guard, who already worked for Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky in the WNBA, recently signed a contract with the Los Angeles club.
“Her participation in the Olympic Games in Paris will depend entirely on rehabilitation,” said Sven Van Camp, high performance manager of the Cats. “We have every confidence in the medical framework and in the hard work ethic that characterizes her. Together with her and the entire Belgian Cats family, we are keeping our fingers crossed for the best scenario, but the absolute priority is a complete rehabilitation.”
Nastja Claessens (wrist), Kyara Linskens (knee) and Elise Ramette (shoulder) are also currently recovering from injuries. In mid-May, the Belgian Cats, initially with many young talents from the Young Cats, will start preparing for the Olympic Games in Paris (July 26-August 11).
