Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez has been linked with Atletico Madrid for several weeks
Negotiations appear to have started last week, with some even reporting that an agreement has been reached. The 24-year-old wants to leave Manchester to get more playing time and for family reasons.
Talks appear to have intensified over the last 24 hours, and while there are reports in Europe that a deal is close, Ole in Argentina, as reported by Sport, has reported that the deal is done. Their initial report was for €70m plus €20m in variables for City, but they have since revised that figure to €80m with the variables included. They also note that Alvarez would retain 100% of his image rights, rather than the 75% he currently enjoys at City.

For his part, Fabrizio Romano is not saying that the deal is done yet, but he does say that the Rojiblancos are working on reaching an agreement today. According to his information, Chelsea would pay around 40.8 million euros for Samu Omorodion. Diario AS also claims that Omorodion’s departure is essential for the operation to be successful, although the price of the 20-year-old striker could rise to 50 million euros.
The Madrid newspaper also indicates that Joao Felix is considered as a source of financing for the Alvarez operation. The club has set his price at 60 million euros, but is not very optimistic about its chances of obtaining it, despite the interest of Aston Villa.
Ole also claims that Alvarez would like to move to Madrid in part because of the expiry of some of his family members’ visas in England after a two-year period.
If this happens, it will be a major coup for Atlético, with the arrival of one of the best strikers in the world, who has a history of scoring goals on a regular basis. Since the arrival of Joao Felix, Alvarez would be the first striker to sign for Atlético with the necessary cachet to arrive at any team in the world.
