Julia Noll crowned new Baden Wine Queen, representing Baden wine at 150 events

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The new Baden wine queen is called Julia Noll. The 21-year-old wine marketing specialist from Buggingen in Markgräflerland (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald) prevailed against her competitors in the final in Freiburg on Thursday, said Holger Klein, Managing Director of the Badischer Weinbauverband.

Together with her two princesses, Alisa Höll and Katharina Bruder (both from Ortenau), she will represent Baden wine at around 150 events in Germany and abroad for a year. No sooner had she been elected than the new wine queen had her first official act: she was to open the 50th Freiburg Wine Festival with her princesses on Thursday evening. Noll is the 73rd Baden Wine Queen. The Baden wine sovereigns have been elected since 1950.

Five candidates from Ortenau, Markgräflerland, Badische Bergstrasse and Lake Constance stood for election. Three applicants prevailed in the internal survey in front of a 40-strong expert jury and then competed against each other in the final round in front of around 160 guests.

Agriculture Minister Peter Hauk (CDU) congratulated the new wine sovereigns. As likeable and competent ambassadors for Baden wine, they would also represent the charm of the Baden wine-growing region. Viticulture is of particular importance for Baden-Württemberg. “As a cultural asset, wine is closely linked to tradition, the cultural landscape and especially the people in the country.”
