Julia Frechette has been an illustrator of children’s books in Strasbourg for two years. His first book for toddlers was published in 2023. The 27-year-old artist is currently working on three new children’s book projects. She talks to us about her inspirations and her projects.
Julia Frechette has been drawing since she was little. It was in high school that she took her first drawing lessons. The professor then suggests that she make it her career. This is today done. Julia has been an illustrator in Strasbourg for two years. Graduating from the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in 2022, she published her first book for children the following year in 2023: “C comme cache”. Other well-advanced projects should be completed.
The children’s book is his choice. This allows more freedom. His work is very much inspired by his experiences. The subjects first take shape in his head. It’s a sum of small details that will allow us to profile our characters. Just like a character in a novel. You then have to condense all of this onto paper. A few pencil strokes should be enough, you have to find the right colors, nothing is left to chance.
