Jules Ferry School to Represent Uruguay in Schools Rugby World Cup

The Jules Ferry school is one of the twenty establishments in Burgundy – Franche-Comté which will participate on October 19 in the Schools Rugby World Cup in Beaune. The little Lrons will represent Uruguay.

In a circle on the lawn of the Lure stadium, the 21 CM1-CM2 students from the Ferry school train with good humor in handling the oval ball, following the advice of Julien Petit, technical advisor for the regional rugby league. The operation is supported by Rugby Ovalie Luron and its president Rémy David, present Thursday morning with the young people.

After a short, well-deserved break, it’s time for the game at 10 in a match lasting two times five minutes. “There is no contact” reassures Brice Jacquier, USEP delegate from Haute-Saône, “At the first touch, the player has two seconds to pass the ball otherwise it passes to the opponent”. The young people, who are very committed, throw themselves seriously into the game, some weaving with great agility among the opponents to place the ball on the other side of the line.

The establishment is one of twenty schools drawn by the Sports Union for Primary Education (Usep), in partnership with the Burgundy Franche-Comté Rugby League to participate in this rugby tournament. 500 children will walk on the lawn of the Beaune stadium, dressed in the jerseys of the different participants in the Rugby World Cup and divided into the same official groups.

In addition to the five sessions dedicated to rugby, the students worked in advance on the country they represent, “on geography, language, the national anthem, history, the national team with the jersey and the colors as well as on the personalities of the country” specifies the director of the school Sébastien Vonfelt. The tournament will begin with the parade of countries with all the schools and end with the grand final.
