YPRES – Jules Destrooper, winner of the West Flanders Product, and IJsboerke from Kempen are certainly no strangers to each other. The product of the award – the natural butter waffle awarded by Made in – was already the result of their collaboration. Now the two parties are announcing a new entente with the launch of a festive treat called ‘Le Gâteau’, a luxury ice cream cake that aims to bring together the best of both brands.
With the holidays approaching, ‘Le Gâteau’ is presented with the perfect Christmas dessert, an elegant ‘Made in Belgium’ addition to the traditional Christmas bouquet.
‘Le Gâteau’ is not the first collaboration between IJsboerke and Jules Destrooper; the two have been working together successfully for a long time. In 2009 they introduced ‘La Galette’, a combination of IJsboerke vanilla ice cream with creamy caramel sauce, covered in Belgian chocolate and finished with the biscuit’s signature natural butter waffles. 15 years later, this is still a perennial fixture in the freezer category.
Earlier this year, IJsboerke also launched the one-liter box ‘Jules Destrooper Almond Thins & Speculoos’: a creamy vanilla blend of crispy pieces of speculoos and Jules Destrooper almond bread, finished with caramelized almond pieces. This ice cream is part of the IJsboerkes Belgian Originals range, which collaborates with other Belgian brands such as Leonidas and Hoogstraten Aardbeien.
A combination of tastes and ideas
“The idea of launching a new ice cream cake has been with IJsboerke for some time,” says Jef Segers, commercial manager at IJsboerke. “Preferably one that is more festive, but can be enjoyed all year round. Yes this gorgeous ice cream cake, which combines the fine taste of Jules Destrooper cookies with creamy IJsboerke ice cream, offers the answer.”
“Just like our bakers at Jules Destrooper, IJsboerke places great emphasis on respect for taste, ingredients and traditions,” says Ives Depoortere, CEO of Biscuiterie Jules Destrooper.
‘Le Gâteau’ is available at Colruyt, Delhaize, Carrefour, Alvo, Deli Traiteur and also at IJsboerke takeaway shops in Wijnegem Eat Enjoy Shop and Ring Kortrijk.
Since 2015, Jules Destrooper has been managed by the Vandermarliere family. The family of shareholders is more committed than ever to the growth and professionalism of the company. Today there are 16 varieties in the range and three quarters of production is intended for export. The cookies are available in approximately sixty countries, from Japan to the United States and South America.
