Jule Niemeier is in the main field in Linz
The main draw matches on Monday at the WTA Tour 500 tournament in Linz were over quickly: Katie Boulter, somewhat surprisingly, knocked sixth-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini out of the competition 6:2 and 6:2 after 75 minutes of play. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was in an even greater hurry, needing only 66 minutes for her 6:4 and 6:0 win against Martina Trevisan. Pavlyuchenkova and Boulter will now meet in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, qualification also ended on Monday in the Upper Austrian capital. And from a German perspective there was at least a sense of success. Because Jule Niemeier is in the main field after a confident 6:3 and 6:1 against Nuria Parrizas Diaz. However, Ella Seidel against Sara Errani and Tamara Korpatsch against Erika Andreeva were eliminated. In round one, Niemeier will face Anna Blinkova, who recently caused one of the big surprises of the tournament at the Australian Open with her win against Elena Rybakina.
The table in Linz is led by Jelena Ostapenko ahead of Ekaterina Alexandrova. Returnee Angelique Kerber will face Lucia Bronzetti at the start, after which she could face Elise Mertens. The Belgian won the doubles title together with Su-Wei Hsieh in Melbourne on Sunday. By the way, against Jelena Ostapenko and her partner Lyudmyla Kichenok.
