The head of the Unique Coordinating Center for Ablation and Implant of Jujuy (CUCAIJUY), Luis Luna explained that in 2020 “the province of Jujuy worked permanently on organ donation, achieving a total of 14 ablation procedures; 12 of them were successful, offering a new life opportunity for both residents of Jujuy and patients in different provinces ”.

The last ablation operation took place on December 28, adding 5 during the months of strict quarantine, 2 of which were multi-organ.
“On the 27th at the last minute we learned that an adult patient, after five days in hospital in serious condition at the Pablo Soria Hospital, was diagnosed with brain death. At dawn on Monday 28, the evaluation of the organs began, performing the ablation itself in the morning. From there, the possibility of transferring the liver resulted for a patient in the Province of Mendoza, on whom we know is evolving favorably, ”said Luna.
On the other hand, he highlighted that “of the 5 operations carried out in the months with restrictions due to the pandemic, 2 were multi-organ, being a great challenge that the health personnel and the different logistics areas were able to carry out because these protocols were also specially adjusted and adapted ”.
Looking ahead to 2021, CUCAIJUY plans to reinforce the work together with the Primary Health Care (PHC) area, strengthening the presence in the rakings that are carried out throughout the provincial territory. “We consider that this is one of the spaces where we can add awareness about the value of organ donation as well as expand information and offer answers to the concerns of the community,” said Luna and anticipated that “we have the given conditions and the will of the Health authorities for Jujuy to have its own Transplant Center in the medium term, which will of course be a fundamental achievement ”.
