In an important advance for the health and food safety of Jujeños, the city’s Deliberative Council has just approved a new ordinance that requires all restaurants, bars and cafes to detail the ingredients of each dish on their menus. This measure, a pioneer in the region, seeks to protect people with food allergies and intolerances, providing them with the necessary information to choose their meals with peace of mind.

The first vice president of the Council, Gastón Millón, highlighted that this initiative “guarantees transparency in the information on the menus, allowing those who have a food allergy or intolerance to make informed decisions.” In addition, he stressed that the ordinance not only benefits the residents of Jujuy, but also tourists, who increasingly value clarity in food information.

Municipal Support and Training

To facilitate the implementation of this new regulation, the Municipality of San Salvador de Jujuy will offer training to the owners and employees of gastronomic establishments. These workshops will provide tools and knowledge so that locals can comply with the requirements of the ordinance efficiently and without complications.

Likewise, the municipality will grant a special certification to those establishments that meet all established requirements, which will allow consumers to easily identify safe places for their food needs.

What does the new ordinance imply?

Detailed information: Menus must include a complete description of the ingredients used in each dish, with special emphasis on those that may cause common allergies such as nuts, gluten, shellfish or dairy.
Informative signage: Premises must display signs that inform customers about the new regulations and invite them to inquire about possible allergens.
Collaboration with the gastronomic sector: The ordinance was developed in conjunction with representatives of the gastronomic sector, ensuring that it is viable and does not generate an excessive burden for establishments.
