The competition in Zwickau, Saxony, and the surrounding area runs until Friday next week. By then, around 1,200 music auditions, five concerts, workshops and a supporting program are planned.
The piano is the most popular competition instrument
Most of the soloists in “Jugend musiziert” compete against each other in the subject piano. This is followed by the subjects singing and drums. The annually changing solo competitions are also held in the categories harp and guitar. There are also several ensemble categories, including a New Music group. The competitions take place in the cities of Zwickau, Reichenbach, Meerane and Werdau. The organizers are expecting around 10,000 guests.
After 1997, the competition is being held in Saxony for the second time. “Jugend musiziert” was founded in 1963. Next year the national competition will be held in Lübeck.
