JUFED rejects appointing judges by popular vote

The National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (JUFED) decided to absolutely reject the appointment of judges by popular vote, and as part of its actions against the reform of the Judicial Branch, it will express its position through the “placing of banners in rejection of the forums as they turn out to be a simulation.”

In announcing the results of a meeting held on Friday, the organization headed by federal judge Juana Fuentes Velázquez, stated that the National Board of Directors of JUFED, “considered that since the dialogues convened by the Chamber of Deputies have concluded and turned out to be a simulation by not giving the opportunity to participate in various venues to members of the association, in addition to the fact that in one of the forums they turned off the microphone during the intervention made by an assistant federal judge; it was agreed to carry out the actions to make clear the rejection of such forums.”

He indicated that “in order to reinforce the defense of the separation of powers and of the judicial career, which is a strength of judicial independence,” they will carry out protest actions, so once the date for placing the banners is defined, “a statement of rejection of the constitutional reform initiative by the JUFED and various organizations of the Judicial Branch of the Federation will be read out in all Circuits.”

Likewise, the JUFED “seriously considers the proposal approved at the extraordinary general meeting of June 18, 2024 to suspend work on a date to be determined.”
