Mexico City. The Council of the Federal Judiciary (CJF) and the National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (JUFED), condemned “the armed aggression suffered by workers” of the Federal Judiciary in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas , by elements of the state Investigative Police. Reports that have been disseminated on social networks indicate that a group of judges who were traveling in three vehicles and were heading to an altruistic event were shot at by elements of the Investigative Police in the area of the Gómez Meza Hospital.
The Judiciary noted that the attack occurred when the officials “were traveling aboard a van in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas,” which is why the agency rejected “any expression of violence and calls for guaranteeing security and peace, in order to “guarantee the full exercise of the rights and freedoms of all people, and therefore calls on the authorities of the State of Chiapas to promptly investigate and clarify the facts.”
The reports indicate that the judges would participate in an “information activity” within the framework of Women’s Month that would take place at the Women’s Diagnostic Clinic and that was scheduled for seven in the morning.
In this context, the JUFED pointed out that “it is vitally urgent that state and federal authorities clarify this fact and that sanctions be imposed on those responsible.”
The organization led by Judge Juana Fuentes Velázquez expressed that “it cannot fail to express its concern about the hostile climate that has been built against those of us who make up the Judicial Branch of the Federation, which is why it calls on those who make up the Federal Executive to stop this polarization, which can put the integrity of workers and judges at risk.”
