Liverpool went through bitter drama in the transfer market last summer after being rejected twice by players. They have agreed with Brighton & Hove Albion for the transfer of Caicedo worth 111 million pounds.

However, the 22-year-old midfielder was reluctant to accept their proposal and chose to wait for a proposal from Chelsea. Chelsea then came forward with an offer of 115 million pounds and got it.

After a few days, Liverpool also lost again to Chelsea in the hunt for Romeo Lavia, who was then defending Southampton. After several offers were rejected, Lavia decided to join Chelsea in a transfer worth 58 million pounds.

These two rejections caused Liverpool to be worried about not having a defensive midfielder after the departure of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. But then Juergen Klopp moved to secure Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich and Wataru Endo from Stuttgart.

Even though they were accused of panic recruiting, in fact Liverpool is now successful with their new midfield. For the record, they had already brought in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in this sector.

In a question and answer session with supporters at Anfield, Klopp was asked about the decision to recruit Endo. He answered it in a joking manner, plus a little sarcasm for spice.

“Last summer we went through a number of strange things in the transfer market. But now just between us I can say ‘Oh my God, lucky us’,” said Klopp.

“We didn’t know at the time, to be honest, we didn’t realize it at the time. But I’m very happy that it ended like that. We never know that it will end like that.”

“I had a good feeling before the start of pre-season, we already had Macca and Dom in the team, then we knew there was an opportunity for Ryan. Then we really realized that the other central midfielders didn’t want to join Liverpool. Yes, you saw what happened.”

“Then we found Endo. He is an extraordinary player, really. He is 30 years old, experienced, captain of Japan, and that opportunity should not have been possible. Of course he was not the first choice because the transfer market is like that, we are not chasing 30 year old players who play in Germany and almost got relegated.”

“But thankfully we checked twice and looked deeper and got this kid and he definitely wanted to come, and that helped the transfer happen,” he added as reported by Metro.
