Juergen Klopp want to fight Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool be repeated. According to him, that was the right solution for the VAR error that annulled Luis Diaz’s goal.
Liverpool lost 1-2 on a visit to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League last weekend. This match was marred by VAR controversy.
Liverpool scored a late goal Luis Diaz but the referee disallowed it for offside. A misunderstanding between the VAR officer and the referee then saw Diaz’s goal disallowed even though replays showed that the Liverpool player was onside.
PGMOL or the Premier League’s Professional Referee Body then admitted there was an error in annulling Luis Diaz’s goal. Luis Diaz’s goal should have been legal.
“It is very important that as big and important as football is that we handle it in an appropriate way,” said Klopp as reported by Sky Sports.
“Everyone involved, the referee on the pitch, the linesmen, the fourth official, and especially in this case the VAR, did not do it on purpose. It was a mistake and I think there will be a solution after that.”
“Some people might not want me to say this, but not as a Liverpool manager, more as a football person, the only result should be a rematch. That’s how it is. It’s probably not going to happen.”
British media BBC Sport claims there is no possibility the Premier League will consider a rematch.
“The argument against (a rematch) is that maybe if we start, then everyone will ask. The situation has never happened before. I’m 56 years old and used to wrong decisions, difficult decisions, but something like that as far as I remember hasn’t happened has happened,” Klopp added.
“That’s why I think a rematch would be the right thing.”
Juergen Klopp was then asked whether Liverpool had requested, or would request, an official rematch against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
“Currently, we are still checking the information we have,” said Juergen Klopp in response.
