Judoka Michaela Polleres has won her second title at one of the top-class Grand Slam tournaments in Antalya.
The Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo eliminated, among others, vice world champion Giovanna Scoccimarro and Olympic bronze medalist Madina Taimazova in the up to 70 kg class on Saturday. In the final, the 26-year-old from Lower Austria defeated the young Portuguese Tais Pina with Ippon and thus achieved her second Grand Slam success after Tashkent 2023.
“The longer the day lasted, the more confident Michaela became. She was the clear number one today,” said ÖJV sports director Markus Moser. Magdalena Krssakova took fifth place in the fifth of this year’s nine Grand Slams in the up to 63 kg category. The Viennese made it to the fight for bronze, which she lost to two-time vice world champion Miku Takaichi (JPN). Lubyana Piovesana, who won in Baku in February, was eliminated in her opening fight, like several other ÖJV athletes.
