Judo Team Advances to Qualify for Paris 2024 Olympics After Strong Season

BUDAPEST, 6th August, WAM, 3 players from the judo team approached qualifying for the “Paris 2024” Olympics, after their score increased in points, following their positive participation in the major International Federation tournaments in the 2023 season, the most recent of which was the “Grand Masters” tournament in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
The championship will conclude today, Sunday, in the “Bab Lazloa” hall, in Budapest, under the supervision of the International Federation.
Japan, the world champion, maintained its lead in the championship with 10 medals, and France, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Belgium and Canada came in second place with a gold medal.
The judo team retained the top position in the Arab countries, and 19th place in the overall standings, with a bronze medal.
Talal Shavili, the judo player, achieved seventh place in the under-81 kg category, by defeating German champion Timo Kavlios and Azerbaijani player Zelim Chief, before losing in the semi-finals to Georgian world champion Grigal Tato.
The judo team concludes its participation in the championship today with heavyweight competitions, where Dhofar Kosov will meet Serbian Dosen Bojan in the preliminary round for under 100 kg, and Omar Maarouf will play in weight over 100 kg, with Azerbaijani champion Kokori Yushanji.
The judo team is preparing to hold a preparation camp in Georgia for a week, in preparation for the Zagreb Grand Prix Championship, which will be hosted by the Croatian Federation from 18 to 20 August, with the participation of Batsu Altan in the weight of under 57 kg, and Gregory Aram in the weight of under 90 kg, followed by a short camp in Tokyo, before participating in the Asian Games in China in September and October.
