Judist Zachová dropped out of the Olympic tournament | iRADIO

After twenty years, a Czech judoka wrestled on the Olympic tatami. In the weight category up to 63 kilograms, Renata Zachová had an unsuccessful fight with the Hungarian Ozbasová. Ten seconds before the end, she managed to get her opponent to the ground, but according to the judges, it was not a scoring technique. However, no one reviewed the disputed situation on the video.

Zachová was more active from the beginning of the match, but at the beginning of the third minute she did not catch the onset of her opponent and was losing. “That was exactly from the grab she threw at me in Mongolia as well. And I didn’t have time to turn it around at that moment,” she explained. From that moment on, Zachová was very active and tried, if not to turn the tide, at least to level the scores.

They didn’t even reconsider it, the referee certainly couldn’t see it, thinks judoka Renata Zachová, who was eliminated from the Olympic tournament in the first round

“Ten seconds before the end, I thought that if he was backing up like that, I could change it to the other side, which I did. Unfortunately, it was not a scoring technique. They didn’t even review it, which I don’t really understand because it was from the referee and he certainly couldn’t see it. But that’s just the way it is,” says Zachová, who felt this moment as an injustice.

She managed to get Ozbasová to the ground, but Zachová was the one between the falling opponent and the referee. In most cases such situations are reviewed on video, but not this time.

“Unfortunately, her shoulder was probably on me. I think her feet fell into the bridge, but they didn’t care. Jirka (Štěpán) tried to enforce it, let them at least look at it and fire him. I probably don’t have much to say about this referee,” Zachová describes.

Cheap judokas: Klammert has matured as a judoka, Zachová is tough and Krpálek has the mentality of a champion

At that moment, her coach Jiří Štěpán jumped up from his seat by the tatami and demanded a video review of the grab, but the referee sent him out of the hall instead.

“When Renča (Zachová) started to lose, she took a big risk, where she was able to threaten her from every turn. I would like to look again at that action ten seconds before the end of the match, because I think it could have been a score, but unfortunately they didn’t score and it’s the end of the Olympic tournament,” coach Štěpán was saddened.

His ward had tears in her eyes after her only appearance at the Olympics: “I’m very, very happy that I made it to the Olympics and that I walked up those stairs. I enjoyed it a lot. I’m sorry, I’m especially sorry about the last seizure. It’s just the way it is.” On Wednesday, he’ll be cheering on David Klammert, and on Friday he’s looking forward to the fights of defending champion Lukáš Krpálek.
