Judicial reform could be approved in mid-September, Mier estimates

Mexico City. The deputy coordinator of Morena senators, Ignacio Mier, estimated that the reform to the judicial power could be approved in the first half of September, highlighting that the upper house will take care of the entire legislative process and the times established by law and regulations.

“We will wait for the minutes to arrive from the Chamber of Deputies, where the ruling can be discussed immediately because the integration of committees is not required,” he explained after completing the procedures to obtain the credential that accredits him as a senator.

Unlike what may happen in San Lázaro, Mier explained that in the Senate the Constitutional Points and Legislative Studies commissions will be integrated first, to which the minutes will be sent for their members to analyze.

He noted that there will be no fast-track approval of the document. “If we stick to the timetable, it could be approved in the first half of September,” he stressed.

Mier also defended the appointment of Gerardo Fernández Noroña as president of the Senate’s board of directors, whom he described as a great, well-prepared and cultured person. He knows how to debate when he has to, but as established by the general law of Congress, he must be an impartial president, he stressed.
