Judicial Intimidation and Suppression of Media in Lebanon: Judge Suleiman Files Lawsuits Against Media Professionals

“Lebanon Debate”

The series of gagging mouths and suppressing freedoms continues day after day, as it clearly appears that some judges continue to intimidate media professionals by filing lawsuits demanding “enormous” sums of money to intimidate them and make them an example to their colleagues.

In detail, Judge Suleiman, today, Thursday, filed a personal complaint before the Public Prosecution of Discrimination against Tawq, for crimes of defamation, slander, and defamation, requesting that he be arrested, interrogated, and referred to the competent court for trial, and obligated to pay financial compensation amounting to $200,000 as compensation for unemployment and damage.

Judge Suleiman also submitted before the Urgent Matters Judge an “order on a petition” to prevent Tawq from broadcasting and publishing any documents that the latter had vowed to publish that would affect Judge Suleiman.

Judge Suleiman should have reviewed what he had done in obliterating the file of the crime of the era by emptying the file and deviating from customs and laws by recovering the arrest warrant in absentia against former Minister of Public Works Youssef Fenianos.

Most importantly, what Tawk made about an external referral to Judge Suleiman is documented with documents, and Tawk has, under the law, the right to protect corruption whistleblowers, which the judge is trying to turn into imprisoning corruption whistleblowers.
