New Head Court Usher position created
Abolition of the post of Trainee Court Officer to allow direct recruitment of qualified officers
An ad hoc Allowance for bailiffs who work during trials at the Assises
The PRB 2021 report for judicial officers takes into consideration the workload with the growing number of cases to be managed daily. While several representations of the judges so that some of their allowances are revised upwards and be
Pensionable were not taken into account, the report nevertheless maintains all the allowances provided in the 2016 report, some even being revised upwards. The restructuring of certain positions in order to compensate for the work as well as new allowances have been added.
The chief judge remains the highest paid constitutional position in the public sector. His monthly salaries go from Rs 206,000 to Rs 219,500, plus other allowances, while the Senior Puisne Judge ends up with Rs 188,250 and the judges Rs 175,750. The PRB report also makes provision for the post of president of the Children’s Court, which will be operational shortly, with a basic remuneration of Rs 128,875. The presidents of the Intermediate Court and of the Industrial Court will also receive the same salary treatment.
During the performances, the judges had pleaded for an increase in their Special Judicial Service Allowance and had asked that this allowance be counted at retirement. They also asked that they could continue to enjoy tax exemptions on their retired cars.
The PRB report, however, found that these recommendations were not possible, as judges already have privileges appropriate to their status. This report thus makes relevant recommendations for meritorious proposals. To this end, the rank of Trainee Court Officer has been abolished, while the report makes provision for the creation of a rank of chief bailiff in order to increase the salary of the rank of judicial officer.
