The Union of Workers of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (STPJF) stated that sectional secretaries and “members of the National Executive Committee, have received “calls or messages” in which some justice administrators have threatened them “to show solidarity with the suspension of work” that is planned against the approval of the judicial reform.
The STPJF reported that during a plenary session held on August 14 and 15 in which “the evolution and development of events related to the imminent suspension of work against the initiative of Reform to the Judicial Branch of the Federation” was analyzed, eight union sections reported a general consensus among their members to participate in the work stoppage.
He reported that “as a result of the calls or messages received daily by sectional secretaries and various members of the National Executive Committee, through which they were informed of the pressure (threats) from some of the country’s judges and trusted personnel, to show solidarity with the suspension of work, it was agreed that they will document themselves in order to take the appropriate legal action before the corresponding authorities.”
The leader of the STPJF, Jesús Gilberto González Pimentel, reported that during the extraordinary session “it was insisted that until the content of the opinion issued by the Constitutional Points Commission of the Chamber of Deputies in Plenary is known and it is confirmed that our labor rights and benefits are untouched, the Plenary will decide on the measures to be taken, without ruling out the suspension of work, as an extreme measure.”
The statement distributed among union members mentions that “in light of the widespread concerns expressed by the worker base regarding the possible impact on the judicial career, some sectional secretaries and the legal department of our Representation prepared an explicit proposal to reform article 96, section II, of the Constitution, so that the reform would be clear and express in this matter and would set out the need to equalize the opportunities of our members with those of external candidates within the selection process for candidates to occupy a judgeship, and, once the aforementioned reform is in force, competitive examinations implemented by the Federal School of Judicial Training would be held.”
He also pointed out that “the legal department reported that it has already planned a defense strategy for workers who wish to go to work and not participate in the movement.”
