Mexico City. The National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges (Jufed), announced this morning the result of the consultation it carried out among its members based on the following question: Do you agree with the resumption of work starting on December 16? October 2024, now carrying out other types of protest activities?
The Jufed indicated that “the results were the following: 684 votes in favor of the resumption of work, carrying out other forms of protest, and 572 votes against the resumption of work, choosing to continue the suspension.”
The organization headed by federal judge Juana Fuentes Velázquez stated that the results mandate its leadership and “in no case should they be interpreted as a division or abandonment of our firm defense of judicial independence.”
And he explained that “the diversity of opinions among the judges on the way to proceed, whether resuming or suspending activities, is a clear reflection of our unity” and all the judges and magistrates are “committed and fighting for the defense of our human rights, the division of powers, and the strengthening of our rule of law”, and will continue their fight in coordination with grassroots workers.
Therefore, they will give “continuity and strength to the national and international legal actions undertaken” against the implementation of judicial reform.
Through a press release in which the return to activities as of October 19 was announced, they made a “respectful” call to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to rule promptly. and firmness necessary on the recently approved judicial reform.
“We fully trust that the Supreme Court, as the last bastion in the defense of freedom and democracy in Mexico, will know how to protect the principles that govern us and safeguard the fundamental rights of Mexicans,” said Jufed.
They demand that the CJF respond “in a timely manner” to the suspensions issued by the federal courts and tribunals that suspend the implementation of the judicial reform and, from their perspective, “return our country to the path of legality and respect for the division of powers that governs every Democratic State of Law”.
