Judge US: Post Office to Handle All Election Mail | Abroad

In recent months, there has been much concern, particularly on the Democratic side, about the state of USPS and whether the postal company has enough capacity to deliver all election mail on time. The judge argued that this fear is not unfounded. He pointed out that election mail was also prioritized in previous elections, noting that failure in the USPS management layers makes postal workers more difficult to accomplish their “vital mission” around the election.

In July, there was a fuss over plans at USPS to have trucks depart from sorting centers at regular intervals to deliver mail more often on time. These plans would mean that mail that has not yet been sorted by the time of departure would be left behind. On Friday, another federal judge dismissed that policy change in a case brought by 14 states against President Donald Trump, USPS, and postal chief Louis DeJoy, a political ally of Trump. According to the judge, the policy change was “politically motivated.”

The ruling is a boost for Democrats, who expect to benefit from a high voter turnout. They accuse Republicans, President Trump, and USPS CEO DeJoy of wanting to sabotage the election for some time.

In a federal judge in Nevada, Republicans were blunt on Monday after trying to enforce a lawsuit that the state not send ballot papers to every registered voter in the Nevada. The Republicans could not convince the judge of the unproven claim that postal voting promotes electoral fraud.

In the state of Wisconsin, a federal judge also ruled on Monday that postal votes must be counted until November 9, six days after the election. The court also gave voters more time to register and apply for a postal ballot.
