Judge Suspends Permit for Asylum Shelter at Van der Valk Hotel in Uden, Brabant

Dec 20, 2023 at 2:22 pm Update: an hour ago

The asylum shelter in the Van der Valk hotel in Uden in Brabant is not allowed to open on Wednesday. The judge has suspended the permit for two days, the East Brabant court reports.

On Tuesday, the municipality of Maashorst, which includes Uden, issued a permit. Over the next three years, three hundred asylum seekers would be accommodated in the Van der Valk hotel.

Some local residents disagreed and went to court. They want time to object. Their lawyer asked the judge to temporarily suspend the permit.

The court understands that the need for shelter is great. But according to the spokesperson, it must “go according to the rules”.

The first asylum seekers arrived at the hotel on Wednesday. But due to the judge’s decision, they have to wait at least two more days.

The case will continue on Friday and it will be discussed whether asylum seekers can be accommodated in the hotel.
